Kewenn Entr’actes
Kewenn Entr’actes is a non-profit association supporting amateur theatre, and is devoted to promoting lifelong learning in this area. It is based in Quéven, a small town in Brittany, France. Through its activities, Kewenn Entr’actes promotes social cohesion and intergenerational exchange. The association has an inclusive remit, working with all members of the public, including those with disabilities and special needs (such as autism, visual impairments, Down's syndrome). It currently has 160 active members ranging from 6 to 83 years old. Learners are divided into 15 different “ateliers”, or workshops, six of which are for adults. The workshops are run by volunteer teachers.
The association benefits from the collaboration of the Théâtre Bleu, a local, non-profit association of professional actors, who support some of the activities offered by Kewenn Entr'actes by putting their expertise at the disposal of the amateur performers, and collaborating as occasional trainers of the volunteer staff.
The aims of Kewenn Entr’actes are to enable as many people as possible to benefit from cultural opportunities, so they can flourish as individuals and as citizens; to build partnerships with theatres and other venues in the area of Lorient; to enable the development of their volunteer teachers, and to foster links between different social actors through common projects.
As part of this learning partnership, Kewenn Entr’actes will be responsible for the organization and logistics of the mobilties to Quéven and, as such, one important aspect of hosting the mobilities will be the full immersion of visitors in the life of the community, with locals acting as hosts for the visiting participants, so that they can experience the local cultural reality, and all can take part in a cultural exchange. The association also has the support of the town and regional councils and the Ville de Quéven, which makes the facilities of the Centre Culturel des Arcs available to the association and the project.
Pascal Guin, from the Théâtre Bleu, working in partnership with Kewenn Entr'actes, will be in charge of the pedagogical and artistic dimensions of the project, and will work closely with the adult learners in this aspect of the project. Over the past ten years, Pascal has acquired considerable expertise in this sort of international projects thanks to a exchange programmes with a US university and with a German Volkshochschule.
